Search/Rescue could easily sell themselves as a super-group. Formed from the dissolution of Gatsbys American Dream and Acceptance, the group has already had more than it's share of experience, fame, disillusionment and heartbreak. But the young Seattle group has chosen a different path: They're building this band from scratch. Instead of cashing-in on their status as genre heroes in the progressive pop-punk scene, they reexamined their reasons for playing music, and distilled the contents of their record collections into a crystalline new sound.

With nods to to the glimmering beauty of bands like Keane, Snow Patrol and Coldplay, Search/Rescue reveal themselves to be a true product of the Pacific Northwest's rich independent music culture. The restrained passion of singer Ryan VanWieringen's voice recalls the timber of early Death Cab for Cutie and the concise melodies and imagery of songs like Fireflies reveals a deep affection for the singer/songwriter grace of Elliot Smith.

From the bands first show, at Seattle's beloved El Corazon, they were met with overwhelming enthusiasm unlike anything they had ever experienced in previous bands. Already an explosion of interest in the group is taking place but the band isn't starry-eyed. "We're trying to surround ourselves with people that we trust and believe in. We're not looking for an over night success. We want this to be an honest journey," says Bobby Darling, the band's guitar-player/producer. "This band is inclusive, it's for everyone... This one is special." With that in mind, the five-piece recently self-financed their debut full-length The Compound. The Compound, named for an elaborate artwork concept dreamt up by the band, was self-released on February 26th, 2008 as a digital-only release. The album, co-produced by D. James Goodwin (Murder By Death), is a stunning sample of the band's rapidly expanding catalog of songs.
